Context
In October 2021, going back on the road still means working around pandemic restrictions. At 79, Gilberto Gil arrives at the Philharmonie de Paris with Gil in Concert, his first European tour of this comeback. The family takes the stage: Bem, João and Flor bring three generations together around the songs.
In the Grande salle Pierre Boulez, Expresso 2222 opens a set that moves through Viramundo and Panis et circenses. Flor shares Volare with her grandfather. Gil sings Flora in an acoustic solo, while Palco, Aquele abraço and Tempo rei widen the meeting between personal memory and collective repertoire.
The tour moves on to Portugal, but Paris also marks José Gil's return to percussion after Achilles tendon surgery. The performance gets an 88-minute TV edit, produced by Artibella and aired in December on French television. The return to the stage is recorded as a family gathering.
- Flor Gil shares Volare with her grandfather at 13.
- Flora appears as an acoustic solo performance.
