Context
On May 7, 2021, there is no crowd in front of French 79 at the Observatoire de la Côte d’Azur, in Nice. After months of pandemic interruptions, Simon Henner finds cameras where the audience would be. The Passengers session fills that gap, before the Joshua shows resume.
Quartz opens a run of nine tracks that moves through Joshua and also brings back Angel. Code Zero, Hometown and Hold On carry into the observatory the electronic memories of the 2019 record, shaped by references to science fiction and to the 1980s and 1990s. Hush Hush appears in its Cabaret Contemporain Remix version.
In June, the return of the Joshua Tour at Poney Club, in Toulouse, puts Henner back in front of a crowd. The Nice footage remains a Passengers television session, produced by Neutra for ARTE. Between isolation and the return to the road, what remains is a performance built for the cameras.
- Hush Hush appears in its Cabaret Contemporain Remix version, before the closing Hold On.
