Gilberto Gil — Live in San Francisco
Recorded 1995
San Francisco ·
United States
Setlist not available.
“To see Gil take the Unplugged project to San Francisco during its 1995 international run.”
Context
In 1995, San Francisco joins the international path of the Unplugged project. Gil had premiered the tour in Rio de Janeiro in April of the previous year, taking the repertoire of the acoustic album to the stage. Now the project crosses the United States and Europe, widening the reach of that work.
The format puts the voice and acoustic instruments at the center of the performance. In the tour's documented lineup, acoustic guitars, bass, drums, percussion and flute share the stage with Gil. It is a project of reinterpretation: it gathers hits from different moments of his career, without limiting itself to new songs.
After this international stage, Gil begins preparing new material, and Quanta arrives in 1997. The Californian stop remains a record of this in-between phase. It is not to be confused with the Acústico MTV session, recorded in São Paulo in January 1994, which gave rise to the album and to the project's audiovisual release.
