“To follow the Bodø session that turns a new album into a film, with the Arctic Philharmonic.”
Context
The idea starts as a live session and grows into a film. In November 2021, a-ha records in Bodø, above the Arctic Circle, in northern Norway. Svømmehallen Scene hosts the work that gives rise to True North, the band's first project of new songs since Cast in Steel.
The Arctic Philharmonic joins Morten Harket, Pål Waaktaar-Savoy and Magne Furuholmen in the sessions. Stian Andersen directs a film that intercuts the musical process with staged scenes about life in the north. The ocean, the landscape and the relationship with the environment shape this narrative, around the songs gathered for the new album.
Sony Music and Trafalgar Releasing bring True North to theaters on September 15, 2022. The album arrives on October 21. The 2021 recording, the theatrical release and the later posting are different stages of this path. The film preserves an experience conceived for the camera, with the orchestra built into the creative process.
