“To see the Morumbi become a national stage for the Vertigo Tour in the Brazilian broadcast of February 20, 2006.”
Context
On February 20, 2006, the Morumbi also becomes a television studio. Globo prepares a national broadcast, while Franz Ferdinand opens outside the network's cameras. U2 arrives with the Vertigo Tour, which takes How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb to arenas and stadiums.
Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. open with City of Blinding Lights and segue into Vertigo. The set crosses decades without abandoning the tour's album. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For gets a snippet of Está Chegando a Hora; in the encores, Norwegian Wood brings the Beatles close to Original of the Species.
After 40, what remains is also a document of Brazilian television. Twelve cameras plus another in a helicopter capture the performance, in an operation with 250 professionals. A time delay accommodates the breaks without cutting the songs. The night gains an existence beyond the stadium: an entire show designed to reach people's homes.
- Está Chegando a Hora finds its way into I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For.
