Context
In May 2006, the Royal Albert Hall hosts David Gilmour for three nights. On an Island had arrived in March, after 22 years without a solo studio album. The tour has Richard Wright on keyboards and turns the reunion with the past into part of a new stage.
Gilmour plays all ten tracks from the album, plays saxophone on Red Sky at Night and welcomes Robert Wyatt on cornet for Then I Close My Eyes. Crosby and Nash add their harmonies. In the second half, Echoes brings Gilmour's and Wright's voices together again; David Bowie takes the verses of Comfortably Numb.
The May 29, 30 and 31 shows are edited into a single film directed by David Mallet. In September 2007, the recording reaches DVD as Remember That Night, followed by Blu-ray. Bowie's appearance also stands as his farewell to British stages: a brief passage that changes the weight of the close.
- Richard Wright shares the vocals of Echoes with Gilmour.
- Robert Wyatt plays cornet on Then I Close My Eyes.
