Why watch

“To see Golden Earring return to Pinkpop after 28 years, on its third visit to the festival.”

Context

Twenty-eight years separate this return from Golden Earring's previous Pinkpop appearance. On May 16, 2005, the quartet takes the main stage at Megaland, in Landgraaf, with an hour on the bill. The band that played the festival's first edition returns for its third appearance.

Barry Hay sings in front of George Kooymans, Rinus Gerritsen and Cesar Zuiderwijk. Candy's Going Bad opens the show; Skyscraper Hell of a Town brings in the then-recent Millbrook U.S.A. Between Radar Love and When the Lady Smiles, the performance gathers decades of songs, with room for Zuiderwijk's drum solo.

Dutch television broadcasts part of the performance, while the recording preserves this reunion with the festival. The story gains another weight in 2025: after the death of George Kooymans, the Pinkpop archive dedicates the restored show to him. The 2005 return also comes to hold the guitarist's presence.

Radar Love makes room for Cesar Zuiderwijk's drum solo.
