Context
In August 2005, Carole King brings to Temecula an idea born far from the big halls. Performances in private homes and at benefit events had suggested another size for the show. The Living Room Tour turns that closeness into a stage concept, with only two musicians beside the songwriter.
At the Pechanga Theater, King sings and plays piano and guitar, backed by Rudy Guess and Gary Burr. Song of Long Ago opens the journey. The eight-song medley revisits her work with Gerry Goffin, while It's Too Late and So Far Away bring the night close to Tapestry. Burr also takes lead vocals on two songs.
The recording gets a DVD release in October 2007 through Rockingale Records, directed by King and Guess. Rehearsals and material on the making of the tour round out the release. In 2008, the concert reaches American public television: the living room idea also makes it into living rooms at home.
- Gary Burr steps up front on Nobody Wants to Be Lonely and the Juice Newton cover.
