Context
Eleven years separate this Japan visit from Billy Joel's last solo tour of the country. On November 30, 2006, he plays the second of two nights at the Tokyo Dome. The Japanese leg brings together six dome shows, after a run that also passes through Madison Square Garden.
Joel opens with Prelude/Angry Young Man and moves on to My Life and Honesty. The set spans decades without being tied to a single record: Zanzibar meets Allentown, while The Stranger shares space with The River of Dreams. Chuck Burgi takes the drums on this tour, alongside collaborators such as Tommy Byrnes, David Rosenthal and Crystal Taliefero.
Scenes From an Italian Restaurant and Piano Man close the encore, before the tour moves on to Sapporo, Osaka, Fukuoka and Nagoya. The night gets another life on Japanese television in 2007. Fuji TV airs a full two-hour version and a shorter edit for broadcast TV, preserving the concert at two scales.
- Scenes From an Italian Restaurant and Piano Man close the concert in the encore.
