Symphony X — Bloodstock Open Air 2016

On Sunday, August 14, 2016, Symphony X takes the Ronnie James Dio stage for an hour, between DragonForce and Anthrax. Bloodstock reaches its final day at Catton Hall, with Slayer closing the festival. For the American quintet, it is another stop on the tour for Underworld, released the previous year.

Russell Allen handles vocals alongside Michael Romeo, Michael Pinnella, Michael LePond and Jason Rullo. Nevermore opens a run of six songs from the recent album, ending with To Hell and Back. After a bass solo, Sea of Lies reaches back to the material on The Divine Wings of Tragedy.

Serpent's Kiss and Set the World on Fire close the set with two tracks from Paradise Lost. The tour continues through October, with stops in North America, Japan and Australia. In November, the complete professionally filmed footage becomes publicly available. The recording preserves a clear choice from that period: putting recent work ahead of a retrospective.
