Context
Five years after the show that gave rise to Showtime, Storytime, Nightwish returns to Wacken with a different proposition. On August 3, 2018, the Decades tour passes through the German festival. There is no new studio album to present: the focus of the trip is the band's own history.
Floor Jansen takes on songs from different phases, with Marko Hietala on bass and vocals. End of All Hope opens the sequence, which revisits Come Cover Me, Gethsemane and Devil & the Deep Dark Ocean. Tuomas Holopainen, Emppu Vuorinen, Kai Hahto and Troy Donockley complete the sextet; Ghost Love Score closes the journey.
The show is part of the festival's broadcast schedule, but the tour's audiovisual release comes from another stage: Buenos Aires. The tour ends in December, after 82 shows, and becomes the last with Hietala. Wacken keeps a slice of this retrospective, between the heaviness of the early recordings and the long compositions of the recent phase.
- The Greatest Show on Earth brings together two chapters before the Ghost Love Score finale.
