Savatage

Savatage started out as Florida street metal and ended up building entire theaters inside its albums. The duo of Jon and Criss Oliva carried razor-sharp riffs into territories of fantasy, trauma and rock opera without abandoning brutality.

Hall of the Mountain King opened the door; Gutter Ballet and Streets turned drama into architecture; after Criss’s death, the band went on with visible scars. Its legacy lives where heavy metal discovers it can tell stories without losing its teeth.
