Why watch

“To see Savatage's return after ten years, in an encounter with TSO across the two main stages.”

Context

Ten years away from the stage come to an end at Wacken on July 30, 2015. Savatage returns with Jon Oliva and Zak Stevens, but the reunion isn't limited to its own history. Next door, Trans-Siberian Orchestra prepares the other half of an encounter split between the two main stages.

Savatage opens the night on the Black Stage before handing over to TSO on the True Metal Stage. This selection preserves 24 Hrs. Ago and Dead Winter Dead, passes through The Night Conceives and reaches the duet on The Hourglass. Then the bands play the same songs simultaneously, each on its own stage.

The reunion also points to work in progress: TSO had paused the recording of Letters From the Labyrinth to travel to Germany. King Rurik previews that phase. The encounter airs on German television in August, while the recording preserves the passage between Savatage's return and TSO's collective expansion.

Zak Stevens and Andrew Ross share The Hourglass on the Trans-Siberian Orchestra stage.
