Context
The night after Iron Maiden's set, Blind Guardian take the Friday headliner slot at Wacken. It is August 5, 2016, and the Beyond the Red Mirror tour is still in motion. The recent album makes room for a dive into eight of the band's albums.
The Ninth Wave opens the way for The Script for My Requiem and Nightfall. Hansi Kürsch takes on high passages and puts tension into the scream of Imaginations from the Other Side. Between the guitars of André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen, The Last Candle and Lord of the Rings bring back the weight of the old repertoire.
The performance goes to television and streaming, with an ARTE Concert broadcast and later airings on German channels. The festival appearance also gets another perspective in Road To Wacken, a DMAX documentary about the band and the event's workers. The recording keeps both sides of that night: stage and backstage.
- The Last Candle and Lord of the Rings share space with the songs of Beyond the Red Mirror.
