Context
On August 13, 2016, Bloodstock's main stage hosts a reunion that goes beyond reviving a name. Paul Scanlan returns on guitar alongside Jason Mendonça and David Gray. After years away from the stage, the founders introduce Akercocke's new phase at Catton Park.
Leviathan opens an eight-song set, with half devoted to Choronzon. Scapegoat, Son of the Morning and Becoming the Adversary anchor that focus. There are sound problems early on, later resolved. Between Verdelet and Son of the Morning, Inner Sanctum points toward material still in the works.
The reunion moves on to a British tour as the sixth album takes shape. Renaissance in Extremis arrives in August 2017, a decade after Antichrist, and includes Inner Sanctum. The festival footage captures this interval: the old catalog returns to the stage before the comeback gets its own record.
