“To watch a retrospective of Roberto Carlos's relationship with Recife, from the 1960s to the memories assembled in 2021.”
Context
Recife is the thread connecting decades of encounters between Roberto Carlos and his audience. The story begins in the 1960s, but makes no attempt to document every visit the singer made to the city. The focus is on his relationship with fans rather than reconstructing a complete itinerary.
Conceived and edited by Antônio Alves, the special intersperses performance footage, personal accounts, and news coverage. Roberto is at the center, but the city and its displays of affection also guide the editing. That bond provides the unity: these are different moments brought together, not one continuous concert.
Assembled in 2021, the program reaches audiences as a roughly seventy-minute retrospective, with screenings announced on six channels dedicated to the singer. The result takes the perspective of someone who collects and shares these memories. Rather than capturing one night, it preserves a history of encounters with Recife.
