Context
Two days separate the arrival of Wrong Crowd in stores from Tom Odell's appearance at Pinkpop. On June 12, 2016, the singer brings his second record to Landgraaf. His debut, Long Way Down, had already opened the way; now the new songs have to share space with the ones that made his name.
On stage, Odell sings and plays grand piano, surrounded by a band with two drum kits and a backing singer. Andy Burrows sits behind one of the kits. Sparrow opens with an extended intro; I Know and Can't Pretend mix this early part of the show with Wrong Crowd, Concrete and Daddy, before Grow Old With Me.
After the festival, Wrong Crowd reaches number two on the UK chart, and Odell keeps presenting the album. The Pinkpop appearance remains documented by the festival broadcast. This excerpt preserves the first seven songs of a longer performance: a meeting between songs already in circulation and a record that had just arrived.
- Andy Burrows is part of a lineup with two drum kits.
