Context
On June 7, 2014, John Mayer takes the Pinkpop main stage before the Rolling Stones. The Landgraaf stop opens another European leg of the Born and Raised World Tour. After vocal surgery and his return to touring in 2013, he arrives with two albums tied to American roots music.
Queen of California opens the way, but Continuum provides the center of gravity: five of the eleven songs come from that album. Mayer sings and plays guitar with a band that includes Sean Hurley, Aaron Sterling and Doug Pettibone. Between Who Says and Slow Dancing in a Burning Room come Wildfire and the traditional Going Down the Road Feelin' Bad.
After the festival, the road leads to London and other European cities. The recording preserves this meeting between the Born and Raised and Paradise Valley era and the songs that already carried his shows. Waiting on the World to Change sets up the close with Gravity: the festival set ends facing Continuum.
