Context
At 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Blondie takes the Pyramid Stage with a new development that changes the meaning of the comeback: Maria had already reached number one in the UK. No Exit, their first studio album in 17 years, gives the reunion new material. In Pilton, the band does not rely solely on the past.
Debbie Harry opens with Call Me, backed by the core of Chris Stein, Clem Burke, and Jimmy Destri. Screaming Skin comes early; Maria and Nothing Is Real but the Girl appear later. Between them, Atomic, Shayla, and Union City Blue revisit Eat to the Beat. Rapture sets up the closing Heart of Glass.
The performance airs live on BBC radio and television. The Tide Is High finds another home later in 1999 on Live, an album compiling recordings from the tour. In 2021, the show returns to iPlayer as part of The Glastonbury Experience programming. The archive preserves a reunion that also produces new songs.
- The Tide Is High from this performance appears on the 1999 album Live.
