Context
Nineteen days before the arrival of Evolve, Imagine Dragons takes the Pinkpop main stage, ahead of Green Day. It is Sunday, June 4, 2017, in Landgraaf. Believer, Thunder and Whatever It Takes are already out as singles, but the third album has yet to arrive.
It's Time opens with a slow intro. Right after, Dan Reynolds dedicates Gold to the victims of the attacks in London and Manchester. The singer mentions a sinus infection and asks the crowd for help. Between the choruses, the band makes room for solos; Radioactive closes the run with big drums.
On June 23, Evolve reaches stores; in September, the album's world tour begins. The Pinkpop recording preserves the interval between those moves: new songs already share the stage with the earlier hits, but the campaign has not yet taken its final shape. The broadcast keeps that passage, not a retrospective.
- Gold is dedicated to the victims of the attacks in London and Manchester.
- Radioactive closes the performance with big drums.
