Context
November 1992 finds Gilberto Gil between two New York venues: Town Hall and the Ballroom, where a run is announced for November 17–29. In the year of Parabolicamará, he also tours with vocals and acoustic guitar, a format he had taken to Europe for twenty acoustic performances.
At the Ballroom, Gil handles the singing and accompaniment alone. Chiclete com banana, Aquele abraço and Expresso 2222 share space with Buda Nagô, a song from that year's album. The tribute to Dorival Caymmi connects the recent repertoire to a central influence on his music, without adding other musicians to the stage.
The following year, Gil joins Caetano Veloso to record Tropicália 2, celebrating their friendship and the movement that brought them together. The Ballroom recording remains in the singer's video archive as a document of this solo visit to New York: between a new album and another collaboration, the voice and acoustic guitar remain.
- Buda Nagô brings the tribute to Dorival Caymmi to a vocals-and-acoustic-guitar format.
