Context
On June 7, 2014, Pinkpop brings together Joe Bonamassa, John Mayer and the Rolling Stones on the same Saturday, though not on the same stage. Bonamassa takes the 3FM Stage, between Haim and Bastille. Different Shades of Blue is still three months from stores; two of its songs already reach the festival.
Oh Beautiful opens the set, and Love Ain't a Love Song also previews the next album. The program crosses that material with Story of a Quarryman, Slow Train and Sloe Gin. Song of Yesterday revisits Black Country Communion and takes in a passage of The Who's Won't Get Fooled Again.
After The Ballad of John Henry, Bonamassa announces five nights at the Theatre Carré in Amsterdam for March 2015. The festival set thus points to the next stage in theaters. The full broadcast by VPRO's 3voor12 preserves this meeting between the established repertoire and songs not yet released on record.
