“To see Plant at Pinkpop with the Sensational Space Shifters, three months before their first studio album together.”
Context
On June 8, 2014, Robert Plant takes Pinkpop's 3FM Stage, in Landgraaf, with the Sensational Space Shifters. The date comes three months before lullaby and… The Ceaseless Roar reaches stores. Onstage, the Led Zeppelin past shares space with blues and traditional songs.
Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You opens the show, followed by Tin Pan Valley. Plant works through a reworked Black Dog, moves through Spoonful and arrives at Going to California. Justin Adams and Skin Tyson split the guitars; Juldeh Camara joins the lineup on African string instruments. Little Maggie points toward the next record.
Ramble On and Funny in My Mind lead into the close with Whole Lotta Love, which works in Who Do You Love?, by Bo Diddley. After Pinkpop, the schedule continues on other European stages, including Glastonbury. In September, the album brings this lineup together in the studio. The festival recording preserves the meeting between old repertoire and a partnership still under construction.
- Whole Lotta Love closes the show with a snippet of Who Do You Love?, by Bo Diddley.
