“To see the 2013 Japanese farewell, on the trip that ends McCartney's eleven-year absence from the country.”
Context
Eleven years separate this visit from Paul McCartney's previous trip to Japan. On November 21, 2013, the Tokyo Dome hosts the third night in Tokyo and the farewell of Out There for that year. New had reached stores the month before and already held a place among decades of songs.
Paul opens with Eight Days a Week and soon presents Save Us. Rusty Anderson, Brian Ray, Paul Wickens and Abe Laboriel Jr. share the stage with him. The set crosses the Beatles, Wings and his solo career. In the second encore, Yesterday meets thousands of red light sticks in the crowd: a surprise prepared by the fans for the farewell.
The night gets its first worldwide TV broadcast in March 2014, on Sky PerfecTV. In May, Save Us and Everybody Out There reach the DVD of the Japanese edition of New. The whole concert stays tied to the broadcast, while these excerpts bring to an official release the meeting between the recent album and the Japanese audience.
