Why watch

“To see Motörhead take 1916 to Munich, still with Phil Taylor on drums and two guitars.”

Context

After almost four years without a studio album, Motörhead reach 1991 with 1916 and a deal with WTG. The label change follows a dispute with GWR. On March 11, the road takes the quartet to the Deutsches Museum in Munich.

Lemmy takes vocals and bass, Phil Campbell and Würzel share guitars, and Phil Taylor is on drums. Metropolis opens the stage selection. Six songs from 1916 make the film, among them Love Me Forever and R.A.M.O.N.E.S.; Orgasmatron, Killed by Death and Ace of Spades link this phase to the earlier repertoire.

The edit does not turn the night into one continuous block: interviews and backstage scenes run through the performances. The VHS release arrives in July 1991, and the DVD appears in 2004. Between stage, dressing room and bus, the film preserves Motörhead as a quartet and documents 1916 hitting the road.

Love Me Forever and R.A.M.O.N.E.S. put two distinct sides of 1916 on the same stage.
