“To follow the 1991 meeting in Yokohama, in the American Music Awards' Japanese concert series.”
Context
In March 1991, Yokohama hosts a series of concerts tied to the American Music Awards. Cyndi Lauper is part of the lineup, which brings American artists to Japan. The recording presents a selection that spans the repertoire of her first albums and includes songs by other writers.
Primitive and Unabbreviated Love open the show after the intro. I Drove All Night, Change of Heart and Boy Blue come before What’s Going On and Iko Iko. The second half includes Unconditional Love and Working Class Hero, followed by Money Changes Everything and Time After Time.
The final part gathers True Colors, Girls Just Want to Have Fun and I’m Gonna Be Strong, sung a cappella. The recording preserves the meeting with the Japanese audience within that series of performances.
