Context
Among giant redwoods on the Santa Cruz campus, Kenny Loggins trades the scale of the arena for an outdoor gathering. On June 23, 1993, the Shakespeare Festival Glen hosts a show dedicated to his brother Robert, who had died in the same city the previous November.
In a plaid shirt, jeans and boots, Loggins opens with Conviction of the Heart and ties the setting to his environmental concerns. Michael McDonald shares What a Fool Believes; Shanice comes in on Love Will Follow. Your Mama Don't Dance takes on a blues shape and Howard Levy's harmonica, while If You Believe gathers a choir.
The night becomes Loggins' second live album and also reaches VHS, with a different selection of songs. The video release keeps Return to Pooh Corner, the medley of Watching the River Run with Danny's Song, and Forever. The recording airs on PBS and earns an Emmy nomination for sound mixing in 1994.
- Michael McDonald shares What a Fool Believes, a song he wrote with Loggins.
