Context
At 10:30 a.m. on a Monday, the blues of a Los Angeles club opens Pinkpop. On May 31, 1993, The Red Devils arrive in Landgraaf after weeks of European clubs, festivals and TV shows. King King, the debut produced by Rick Rubin, had come out the year before.
Lester Butler handles vocals and harmonica, with Paul Size and Dave Lee Bartel on guitars, Jonny Ray Bartel on bass and Bill Bateman on drums. She's Dynamite opens the run. I Wish You Would and She's Dangerous bring the Dutch stage close to the King King material, before the closing I Was Wrong.
The day does not end at the festival: that night, the five-piece also plays Doornroosje, in Nijmegen. The Pinkpop broadcast widens the reach of this European run, and the tapes circulate among collectors in the years that follow. The footage keeps a lineup that soon changes, with Paul Size leaving after the return to the United States.
- Lester Butler and Paul Size share the stage before the guitarist's departure that year.
