“To see The Strokes' Brazilian debut at Rio's MAM, before the release of First Impressions of Earth.”
Context
From seven in the evening, fans line up for The Strokes' first show in Brazil. On the October 21, 2005 bill, TIM Festival's main stage draws four thousand people to Rio's MAM. The quintet arrives with two well-known records and a third still to be released.
Hard to Explain opens the set after shows by Mundo Livre S/A and Kings of Leon. Julian Casablancas sings in front of the guitars of Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., with Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti holding down the rhythm. The crowd jumps and sings along to the hits; You Only Live Once and Juicebox introduce the next phase.
The Rio visit continues with an extra show at Cais do Porto. First Impressions of Earth reaches stores between December and January, but its songs already find an audience here. The MTV broadcast preserves this first visit, with restrictions on airing the new material: the recording holds both the Brazilian debut and a repertoire in transition.
- Hawaii, You Only Live Once and Juicebox get their live debuts on this night.
