“To see The Strokes on the opening night of the 2006 Eurockéennes, during the third-album tour.”
Context
On June 30, 2006, the opening night of the Eurockéennes puts The Strokes, Daft Punk and Arctic Monkeys on the same bill. On the Malsaucy peninsula, in Belfort, the quintet arrives with First Impressions of Earth on the road and two earlier records already established as the core of the set.
Julian Casablancas takes the vocals between the guitars of Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., with Nikolai Fraiture on bass and Fabrizio Moretti on drums. Juicebox opens the performance. Red Light, Electricityscape and Ize of the World widen the space for the third record, while Hawaii appears between You Only Live Once and Last Nite.
The encore brings together Vision of Division, Reptilia and Take It or Leave It, closing out eighteen songs. After the festival season, the band still passes through Australia, Mexico and the United States before announcing an extended break. Belfort remains a record of the original lineup in circulation, before that hiatus and the wait for Angles.
