Context
On June 4, 2006, the Nürburgring circuit welcomes Depeche Mode as the headliner of Rock am Ring. The band reaches the final European leg of Touring the Angel after passing through North America. Playing The Angel supplies five songs to the meeting between the recent record and the catalog.
Dave Gahan opens the sung sequence with A Pain That I'm Used To. Martin Gore takes Home and returns to center stage for the acoustic encore of Judas. Andrew Fletcher, Peter Gordeno and Christian Eigner complete the stage. Between those two Gore moments, Personal Jesus and Enjoy the Silence come back to back.
Photographic comes before Never Let Me Down Again at the close. The night follows two paths of preservation: MTV Germany's live broadcast gets a different edit on WDR the next day, while the audio joins the official Live Here Now series on double CD. The recording keeps a festival slice of this tour.
- Martin Gore leads Home and returns in the encore with Judas in an acoustic version.
