Context
On July 14, 2006, Montreux welcomes The Strokes to the Miles Davis Hall. The band is crossing the European summer with First Impressions of Earth, its third album, after a run of sold-out shows in the UK. The Swiss stop is part of a schedule that also reaches Roskilde and Benicàssim.
Julian Casablancas takes the vocals in front of the original lineup: Albert Hammond Jr. and Nick Valensi on guitars, Nikolai Fraiture on bass and Fabrizio Moretti on drums. The edit starts with The Modern Age and places Heart in a Cage, Electricityscape and Ize of the World beside songs from the first two records.
After Montreux, the route continues to Turin and Lyon. The season still passes through Asia, Australia, Mexico and the United States before the break announced at the end of the tour. The recording circulates in a thirteen-song edit: it preserves the central stretch of the performance but leaves out its opening and its closing.
