“To see The Strokes present their still-unreleased third album in a London room for about 800 people.”
Context
Outside the ULU, fans had spent the night in the cold to get tickets. On November 29, 2005, The Strokes return to London after their Alexandra Palace shows in 2003. Now they trade the bigger venues for a room of about 800 people, with the third album still to come.
Julian Casablancas walks on in a military jacket and sunglasses, and Juicebox opens the performance. The night starts with a block of new songs before turning to the first two records. This edit shortens and rearranges the running order: Heart in a Cage, Razorblade and You Only Live Once share space with Last Nite and New York City Cops.
The show is recorded for Radio 1, which airs excerpts across different programs. A few days later, the band has another London date, this time for MTV. First Impressions of Earth reaches the UK in January 2006. The ULU recording keeps that interval: new songs already on stage, with the record not yet in stores.
- Juicebox opens the night; Take It or Leave It closes both the full show and this edit.
