Context
On December 3, 2005, Bloc Party arrives at the Paradiso with a debut album and a year of international touring behind it. Silent Alarm had come out in February and reached number three in the UK. In Amsterdam, the original lineup takes the stage in the closing stretch of that first year of expansion.
Kele Okereke shares guitar duties with Russell Lissack, while Gordon Moakes takes the bass and Matt Tong the drums. So Here We Are opens the set, followed by Positive Tension and Banquet. The selection also reaches back to The Marshals Are Dead and makes room for Two More Years, a single released in October.
Fabchannel streams the performance online, giving the Paradiso night a reach beyond the room. The band moves on to A Weekend in the City in 2007, but this recording stays tied to the first record. That is where its interest lies: four musicians still presenting the debut as recent work, not as an anniversary celebration.
