Context
On April 13, 2011, Keane's first performance in China takes place amid a runway, projections and a celebration of British music. Burberry opens its store at Sparkle Roll Plaza and takes the party to the Beijing Television Center. The event also reaches the internet, with a live international stream.
In the same space where real models share the scene with virtual images, a moving stage opens the way for the band. Tom Chaplin takes the vocals, Tim Rice-Oxley the keyboards, Richard Hughes the drums and Jesse Quin the bass. Quin had been working with the group since 2007, but only became an official member in February.
The visit comes after Night Train and before Strangeland, still in the works. While in China, the band also records an acoustic session on the Great Wall. The Beijing night remains as a broadcast document: a one-off meeting between the newly formalized quartet and the international scale of a fashion show.
