Context
On June 11, 2011, Coldplay reaches Landgraaf with an album yet to be presented to the world. Mylo Xyloto only comes out in October, but its songs already take up the stage. At Megaland, the band closes Saturday at Pinkpop between the familiarity of the hits and the exposure of the new material.
Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion open with Mylo Xyloto and Hurts Like Heaven before Yellow. Major Minus and Us Against the World come in among songs from the first four albums. Trouble returns along the way, God Put a Smile Upon Your Face gets a different arrangement and Life Is for Living comes before the encore.
Clocks and Fix You lead the return to the stage, but the close belongs to Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall. The gesture puts the next chapter in the foreground. Four months later, Mylo Xyloto reaches the public; the festival recording preserves these songs while they are still being introduced, before they became established repertoire.
- God Put a Smile Upon Your Face appears with a new arrangement.
