“To see Foo Fighters close Pinkpop 2011, two months after Wasting Light came out.”
Context
From Dave Grohl's garage to Pinkpop's main stage, Wasting Light changes scale. Recorded on tape and produced with Butch Vig, the record had come out two months earlier. On June 13, 2011, Foo Fighters closes the festival in Landgraaf with Pat Smear back in the band.
Bridge Burning and Rope open the set and put the new material up front. White Limo, Arlandria and Walk widen that selection. During Learn to Fly, Grohl points out a rainbow over the crowd. In Times Like These, he starts alone on acoustic guitar and calls in the band for the second half.
Everlong closes a 22-song run that also makes room for Mose Allison and Queen. The Wasting Light road continues into 2012, between festivals and headline shows. The professional Landgraaf footage gets an official release in the Pinkpop archive in February 2026, preserving a full night from that period.
- Times Like These moves from Grohl's solo acoustic guitar to the band coming in.
