Context
On May 27, 2012, Keane returns to Landgraaf for the third time, now with Strangeland just out in stores. The quartet takes a break from the tour to close Sunday on the 3FM stage. The new album lands on familiar ground: the band had already played Pinkpop in 2006 and 2009.
Tom Chaplin moves out along the stage extension to get closer to the crowd. You Are Young opens the show, and four other tracks from Strangeland share space with songs from the earlier records. Everybody's Changing, Bend and Break and Somewhere Only We Know get the crowd singing along; Bedshaped offers the most emotional counterpoint.
Chaplin wants to keep going through the night, but the band has only an hour. Crystal Ball closes the performance, and the Strangeland Tour continues until August 2013. The audiovisual record preserves this meeting between novelty and familiarity: five songs from the recent work sit alongside choruses that already belong to the festival's memory.
- Tom Chaplin moves toward the crowd along the stage extension, while the hits from Hopes and Fears draw sing-alongs.
