Context
On August 23, 2009, the absence of Oasis changes Sunday in Chelmsford. The cancellation leaves Snow Patrol in charge of the main stage, while Keane closes the 4Music stage in Hylands Park. The band arrives with the Perfect Symmetry tour and prepares a response to its neighbors' withdrawal.
Tom Chaplin leads the performance with Tim Rice-Oxley, Richard Hughes and touring musician Jesse Quin. The cut brings Everybody's Changing and Somewhere Only We Know close to Spiralling and Perfect Symmetry. In the encore, Chaplin takes on Cast No Shadow alone on acoustic guitar; Under Pressure closes the night with the band.
The 4Music broadcast condenses a performance of about eighty minutes into eight songs. Cast No Shadow stands as the decisive detour: chosen that same day, it wasn't on the printed set list. The recording preserves this change of course, along with Keane's run through the festival circuit on that tour.
- Tom Chaplin plays Cast No Shadow alone on acoustic guitar before the closing Under Pressure.
