Context
Rock in Rio returns to Brazil in 2011, and Katy Perry is part of the first night of that comeback. The singer brings the California Dreams Tour to the City of Rock on September 23. Teenage Dream provides the base for a performance that turns the album's era into sets, costumes and encounters with the crowd.
Teenage Dream starts the set, followed by Waking Up in Vegas and Peacock. I Kissed a Girl revisits the previous album, while E.T. and Firework represent the recent work. Thinking of You shifts the focus to a more restrained song. A fan named Júlio César, invited on stage, also marks the festival appearance.
California Gurls closes the recorded selection of this performance. The recording preserves the meeting between a tour built around Teenage Dream and the scale of a Brazilian festival. The night belongs to Katy's Rock in Rio debut and comes before her other visits to the event, which will bring sets and staging from different eras.
