Context
Hours before Kings of Leon goes on, Use Somebody is already drifting across the field in Laura Jansen's voice. On June 12, 2011, fans hold their spots in front of the main stage for the Followills' Pinkpop debut. The band reaches Landgraaf as Sunday's closing act, on the Come Around Sundown tour.
Caleb, Nathan, Jared and Matthew open with Four Kicks, Taper Jean Girl and The Bucket. The opening reaches back to Aha Shake Heartbreak before Radioactive brings the latest album to the center. Pyro, Mary and Back Down South also find room. Use Somebody and Sex on Fire are saved for the final stretch, but Black Thumbnail closes the performance.
The road continues through Europe, but the second half of the year brings a rupture: after the aborted show in Dallas, the band cancels the rest of the American leg. A break follows the Australian dates. The Pinkpop recording remains a document of a debut in a top slot, before that season of stages lost its continuity.
- Black Thumbnail closes the show after Use Somebody and Sex on Fire.
