“To see Reeves Gabrels's debut as a member of The Cure, at the opening of the 2012 European festival season.”
Context
On May 26, 2012, Pinkpop welcomes The Cure with a concrete change among the amplifiers: Reeves Gabrels takes the guitar alongside Robert Smith. After the 2011 Reflections concerts, focused on the first albums, the band opens a European festival season in Landgraaf with the catalog spread across the table again.
Plainsong and Pictures of You open the way for High. Smith shares the stage with Simon Gallup, Jason Cooper, Roger O'Donnell and Gabrels, while the set crosses decades without following a chronology. Bananafishbones reappears between A Forest and Lullaby; further on, Trust interrupts the run that moves through Friday I'm in Love and Doing the Unstuck.
The trip continues through other European festivals up to Electric Picnic in Ireland. Gabrels stays in the lineup, and Pinkpop comes to mark the start of this chapter. The recording circulates in TV broadcasts and online; this edit preserves 28 songs but leaves out The End of the World, played that night.
- Bananafishbones returns to the stage after an absence dating back to 1984.
