“To see U2's Glastonbury debut, a year after cancelling because of Bono's injury.”
Context
A year of waiting separates U2 from the Pyramid Stage. The debut planned for 2010 fell through after Bono injured his back. On June 24, 2011, the quartet finally reaches Worthy Farm in Pilton, between North American dates of the U2 360° Tour.
Rain fills the night, and the stage gets slippery. The band opens with five consecutive songs from Achtung Baby, from Even Better Than the Real Thing to One. Then it crosses decades without giving up the detours: Jerusalem introduces Where the Streets Have No Name, while Yellow comes before Moment of Surrender in the encore.
Out of Control closes the performance, before the return to the American road two days later. The BBC and Setanta broadcast carries the meeting beyond the farm. I Will Follow gets a digital charity release right after the festival: a track from Boy comes out of this rainy night as the official souvenir of the postponed debut.
- Five songs from Achtung Baby open the performance with no interruption from other albums.
