Context
On July 21, 1979, Highway to Hell has not yet reached the stores, but it already finds room at the Oakland Coliseum. AC/DC returns to Bill Graham's Day on the Green for the third time. In front of 57,500 people, it shares the bill with Aerosmith and Ted Nugent, among others.
Bon Scott writhes through Live Wire and pulls off his denim vest before announcing Problem Child. Angus and Malcolm Young introduce the riff of Highway to Hell, and the front row answers with clapping and raised fists. Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd complete the quintet; The Jack and Rocker also fill the set.
In the following months, Highway to Hell takes AC/DC to No. 17 on the American chart. Scott's death in February 1980 ends this lineup. The Oakland footage circulates as a professional archive, including streaming on Wolfgang's Vault, preserving the meeting between the If You Want Blood tour and the next phase.
