Tina Turner — Live in Onoway
Recorded 1982

Setlist not available.
“To see Tina Turner on the Alberta circuit in 1982, during her rebuilding as a rock singer.”
Context
In 1982, Tina Turner's road passes through Onoway, Alberta, far from the stadiums that would mark her commercial comeback. Roger Davies had already helped reshape the show as a rock performance. The change begins in 1981 and puts the singer on a road of rebuilding, before the hits of Private Dancer.
At Devil's Lake, Tina walks on in pants, a sleeveless top and a golden wig. The opening does not go straight to Proud Mary: it picks Rod Stewart's Foolish Behaviour, a story of domestic violence. The contrast gives the entrance a particular weight for a singer who had ended her marriage to Ike Turner only a few years earlier.
The road goes on after Alberta. The shows at the Ritz in New York help open the way to the Capitol deal and to Let's Stay Together in 1983. The Canadian recording circulates in unofficial video collections and preserves a lesser-known stop in this transition: the singer is still winning ground one show at a time.
