Context
Amid giant excavators and mining machines, Melt welcomes Bloc Party on July 13, 2012. The industrial setting of Ferropolis frames a band on the comeback: after the break that began in 2009, the quartet returns to the stage with Four announced and released in August.
Kele Okereke takes vocals and guitar alongside Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong. The performance opens with Octopus and includes Real Talk and Team A, previewing the new record. Banquet, This Modern Love and Helicopter keep Silent Alarm at the center of this passage between two phases.
The night also gets a second life on television. ZDFkultur schedules the performance for July 17, as part of its festival coverage. In August, Four reaches stores; the following summer, Tong leaves the band. The recording preserves the four original members still together, before that change.
