Context
Twenty years after Silent Alarm, Bloc Party trade the stages of their North American tour for NPR's space in Washington. The June 3, 2025 session preserves the celebration without limiting itself to the debut record: four songs set the first hit beside other picks from the catalog.
Kele Okereke sings and plays guitar alongside Russell Lissack, Harry Deacon and Louise Bartle. Banquet opens the set with pop drive. Signs shifts attention to the glockenspiel; Mercury brings Okereke's vocal effects, with the gear exposed under the desk. The two tracks revisit Intimacy, from 2008.
Blue closes the session on the band's slower, more delicate side, without turning the farewell into another peak of intensity. The recording reaches the public on July 15, as part of the Tiny Desk series. It captures a compact pause in the anniversary celebration: the debut opens the door, but doesn't fill the whole room.
- Signs features the glockenspiel, while Mercury exposes Kele Okereke's vocal effects gear.
