Context
On June 1, 2012, Soundgarden arrives at the Nürburgring with the reunion already under way and a new album still to come. The comeback announced in 2010 had ended thirteen years apart. In Germany, the band reconnects with the European circuit with Chris Cornell, Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron.
Spoonman opens the live set after the recorded intro of Searching With My Good Eye Closed. The set goes through Hunted Down and the Badmotorfinger block, but puts its weight on Superunknown: six songs from that album enter the run. Cornell handles vocals and guitar, with Thayil, Shepherd and Cameron completing the quartet.
In November that year, King Animal arrives as the band's first studio album in sixteen years. The German show stays tied to the moment before, when the past still fills the whole set. Captured for broadcast, the recording preserves this passage between the reunion on stage and the return to the studio.
