Context
In February 2013, Bloc Party arrive at the E-Werk, in Cologne, with the reunion still fresh and Four in hand. The break that began in 2009 had opened space for side projects. Now Kele Okereke, Russell Lissack, Gordon Moakes and Matt Tong are sharing the stage again on the fourth album's tour.
So He Begins to Lie opens the night, and the Four material takes its place among songs from the three earlier records. Song for Clay gets the Tenderoni intro; Flux pulls in We Found Love. In the encore, Kreuzberg gets a different version and a dedication to the man who calls for it from the crowd. Truth and Helicopter close the show.
The Cologne stop is recorded by the cameras of WDR's Rockpalast. Months later, Ratchet appears on the EP The Nextwave Sessions, and Tong leaves the band during the summer tour. The group goes into another break. The recording preserves the four members before that rupture, still gathered around the record that marks their return.
- Kreuzberg gets a new version and a dedication to an audience member who asks for the song.
