Context
At 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011, White Lies takes Pinkpop's main stage, in Landgraaf. Wolfmother comes before; Kings of Leon closes the bill after. The band arrives with Ritual, its second album, released in January, and a stage setup expanded to five musicians.
Harry McVeigh handles vocals and guitar, Charles Cave plays bass and Jack Lawrence-Brown holds down the drums. Tommy Bowen and Rob Lee complete the touring lineup on keyboards and guitars. The set mixes both records: A Place to Hide opens; Bigger Than Us closes.
The night belongs to the phase in which White Lies takes its second record to the big festivals, without dropping the songs from its debut. The next album, Big TV, only arrives in August 2013. The Pinkpop footage remains a document of that interval: two records out and a band expanded on stage.
